Volunteer
The Friends of Lakeside Lab provide a number of volunteer opportunities. Two of our most well-known volunteer programs are Coffee & Grounds and CLAMP. These programs require moderate physical activity, but the Friends have less-taxing volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Contact Maddie Gulick at friendsoflakesidelab@gmail.com to sign up for Coffee & Grounds, CLAMP, or to learn about more opportunities!
Coffee & Grounds
Work hard and learn about native ecosystems while restoring prairie and oak savanna at Lakeside Lab. Following the groundswork, relax and make friends over coffee and rolls. Meet at the Waitt Lab at 8:30 am each Tuesday during snow-free months. Things to bring: gardening gloves, work clothes, water, and a willingness for hands-on work!
CLAMP
The Cooperative Lakes Area Monitoring Project is a citizen-staffed water quality monitoring program. As a CLAMP-ologist, you will be in charge of collecting lake samples and running basic tests throughout the summer months. Things to bring: a boat/kayak, cooler, sunglasses, and sunscreen! Owning a boat is NOT necessary to volunteer for CLAMP. We send our CLAMP-ologists out in pairs, and are happy to pair you with a boat-owner.
